Yidan Kim and Haedong Lee are artists who have established a unique artistic world of ‘OlfactOaudiO,’ exploring the interaction between the senses of smell and hearing. Moving beyond traditional aesthetics built upon ocularcentrism, they have focused on the creation and appreciation of OlfactOaudiO art as a methodology to realize a ‘post-human aesthetic’ that subverts the hierarchy of the senses. Through live performances, installations, and sculptural works that combine sound with olfactory elements, they manifest synesthetic spatiotemporal dimensions where tangible and intangible elements intersect. Yidan Kim captures everyday scents latent outside the binary framework of ‘stench’ and ‘fragrance,’ proposing the development of olfactory perception as an alternative mode of awareness for a new humanity. Haedong Lee creates and plays sound objects derived from the byproducts of the Anthropocene, exploring the origins of sound through the resonance of collected materials.
